Yes, I get it. We need to “pick our battles”. And, we want to have one-on-one, face-to-face, discussions when it comes to behaviors.
But when it comes to creating a team culture…the way a leader responds to unacceptable behavior sets a tone for team contributors. When a leader accepts inequality, prejudice, and intolerance; the leader gives license to people who think it’s ok to act in their own self-interests.
When the leader shows courage, stands up in support of opportunity, safety and tolerance; they send a message that learning is an expectation, it’s ok to be yourself, and taking risks is part of life. This is how we treat each other.
This courageous leadership will build team cohesiveness and a climate of trust.
