Toastmasters is a club where strangers come together to develop speaking skills. It is a laboratory for learning, where it is safe to try new things infront of a supportive audience.
I listened as a club member told his story about how he heard the news of a fatal accident. His daughter’s friend was killed. He was texting while driving. The speaker was visibly upset but he pushed through his speech. His ask of the audience was simple. We can’t bring Kevin back, but we can be better role models (Act 4 of The 7 Acts of Leadership).
Driving a car is operating a machine. It is a powerful weapon. To be a role model to everyone inside and outside of the vehicle: be sober, remove distractions (silence your phone) and make safety the number one priority.
