Hold conversations in confidence

We send a message that we cannot be trusted when we ‘talk behind a person’s back’.

Whether confidence is implied or explicit, people expect us to listen fully and treat their shared thoughts like a precious gift. They are trusting us with their identity. They are telling us what is important to them, their concerns, fears and hopes.

When we honor their confidence, we develop a bond of trust. When we are reckless with their story, we break the bond and damage our own reputation.
