Be a coach and choose your coach wisely

This Laser Lecture goes out to coaches who are fixers. During the rush of the holidays, some of us just want to make problems go away instead of leveraging a teachable moment.

If you are a coach, either formally or informally, people come to you for answers. Are they asking for a solution or are they seeking guidance in developing decision-making skills? Giving an answer makes the problem go away faster. At least in our minds it does. But consider restraint to be your friend, a teaching tool. Asking questions takes the person on a journey to their own conclusion.  It forces them to go through the mental gymnastics of decision-making.

Want to give a precious gift this holiday?  Ask more questions, give fewer answers. Lead ON! Coaches!
